General Motors seems to be paying special attention to the military connections of its Hummer brand these days.

Hummer dealerships are selling the Hummer Tactical Mountain Bike, designed by Montague Corp., a supplier of military bikes, including some in use in the Middle East.

The bike folds in a system developed to allow paratroopers to jump from aircraft with a full-size mountain bike.

So just as GM markets the Hummer and the H2’s connection to its military cousin, the Humvee, the designer extols the military uses of the bikes.

“Once on the ground, the bike can unfold and traverse terrain silently at high speeds, with no thermal or acoustic radar signature,” Montague says in a news release.

The bike sells for $795. More information is available at www.hummerbikes.com.

You don’t have to own a Hummer to buy the bike. You don’t have to buy a bike rack to carry one.

“For those who cannot afford a $50,000 vehicle, it folds into most vehicles, “ said Sara Clampitt, a Montague spokeswoman.

Meanwhile, H2 owners who want the opportunity to go to, in the word of a Hummer news release, basic training, can do so for do so for $3,757. The H2 Driving Academy teaches driver training on a 320-acre off-road test course in South Bend, Ind.

The H2 Academy is based on the more extensive Hummer Driving Academy that AM General, GM’s partner in the Hummer project, began in 1998.

The $3,757 includes lodging and meals for three days, transportation, use of an H2 for the driving activities and driving instructors.

Trainees get a tour of the H2 manufacturing plant and a technical class on the engineering of Hummer.

The only requirement besides the $3,757 is owning a H2. For more information call 866-831-9547 or visit www.hummer.com.
