CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Montague Corp. developed the Paratrooper Mountain Bike in conjunction with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to bridge a gap between walking infantry and heavy military vehicles.

The Paratrooper is a perfect accessory for truckers. The 24-speed mountain bike folds without the use of tools. In 30 second, with one quick release lever, the bike compacts into a 3-foot by 3-foot pack for easy portability and storage, according to the Montague press release.

Because of an overwhelming demand, the company has decided to manufacture the original military bike for civilian use.

Chris Carmichael, Lance Armstrong’s coach, was asked what he thought of the Paratrooper and its folding technology, he said: ”Think about what the walkman did for music.”
